The Level II CMI Guitar Teacher Training builds on the skills and concepts presented in the introduction to guitar pedagogy in the Level I CMI Guitar Teacher Training.  The training, conducted by Mike Christiansen, will preview much of the material available in Consonus new Guitar Fundamentals – Intermediate Course. If you haven’t been exposed to formal classroom guitar pedagogy training you’ll leave this information packed 60 minutes session with concrete tactics that you can immediately apply to your classroom teaching.  Here’s the workshop syllabus:

  • New strum patterns in 4/4 and 3/4
  •  6/8 and 12/strum patterns

  • Fingerpicking patterns for ¾
  • Finger style tablature solos
  • Minor pentatonic scales
  • Layered learning – What it is and how to implement it
  • Adjusting the Curriculum
  • Rhythms
  • The blues and it’s harmonic variations
  • The diminished chord
  • Introduction to barre chords
  • Carter style solo playing
  • Beginning improvisation
  • How to teach it using chord tones
  • Arpeggio fingerstyle solos (classical style)
  • Beyond barre chords
  • Theory
    • Finding chords in major and minor keys
    • Transposing
    • Playing by ear
  •  How to use blended learning at the intermediate level
