Many classroom guitar instructors are in the position by default. They are often music instructors in a school that has requested, or assigned, them to teach the guitar class, but the teacher has little background in guitar pedagogy. The instructor might also be very limited in their guitar performance skills. This session will present material to assist beginning guitar educators, as well as the seasoned guitar instructor, in developing successful guitar curriculum and presenting the material in the best possible sequence. Participants will also learn how to develop their playing skills quickly.
Solutions to unique challenges faced by guitar instructors will be addressed. Emphasis will be placed on incorporating ensemble literature into the guitar curriculum and using blended learning. Time will also be devoted to showing how to implement layered learning and how the new national core standards can be assimilated in the guitar curriculum.
Regardless of the guitar method being used, instructors at all levels of experience, will find the content of this session helpful in insuring that the student’s guitar education is built on a solid, well-rounded foundation.
